This month's exhibit will feature local artist Colleen O'Connor! Head to the Hoxie Gallery from 5-7 pm Wednesday, March 1st to "Meet the Artist". Her pieces can be viewed in the Hoxie Gallery through the month of March during library hours.

About the artist:

Growing up in Mystic, my art career began at the age of 14 when I created rocks with ink drawings of ships on them which I sold at the Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Outdoor Arts Festival. I attended UConn and graduated with a BFA in painting and sculpture. With my BFA, I moved to Boston. While in Boston I designed created and installed glass panels in public buildings and private residences.

I also met the man who would become my husband, together we returned to Connecticut to be closer to family and raise our two sons.

I continued to pursue my art in painting, glass, and wood. I began to fuse glass creating jewelry and sculptures. During the height of the COVID pandemic, while caring for my elderly dad, I began to focus on photography. I forced myself to take daily hikes. With my camera by my side, photography and birding became an enjoyable and healing passion during this time of seclusion. The majority of my work displayed in this show represents my work during this time of isolation. It shows how I survived as my spirit took flight!

I am currently an elected artist at Mystic Museum of Fine Arts. I also regularly exhibit at Norwich Arts Council and The Clinton Arts Society.
