About the artists:

This artistic duo met at Syracuse University and then studied in Rome, Italy, each with a lifelong love of creating works of art, and a history of artists in their family members. Sharing a home with multiple studio spaces in Stonington, Connecticut, Janvier and Gustaf serve as each other's sounding boards, friendly critics, and wailing walls. They've collectively exhibited at over two dozen locations between Southern Eastern CT New England and Florida.

janvier miller in gallery in front of her paintings"My paintings begin with studies on paper. Each canvas takes about a month to complete. I work on several at once trying for a balance between description and abstraction. I enjoy playfully pushing paint around, then slowly imposing order to create a unified picture. I am also a potter. The vases naturally become subject matter. " Janvier Miller

gustaf miller with his own works"My sculpture and painting have an abstract constructivist approach with textured and colored surfaces. The paintings, even though appearing totally abstract, are in fact based on battered walls and ships. The recent work of the last two years inspired by walls that had adjoining buildings that have been demolished leaving evidence of their rooms, partitions, stairs, etc. Also old ships at sea. The results yield a casual geometric appearance. The sculptures are also related to some of the markings on walls. Favorite artists are Kurt Schwitters, Paul Klee, Paul Cezanne and Louise Nevelson."
