ASSISTANT GARDENER / GROUNDSKEEPER, PART-TIME

Westerly Library and Wilcox Park seeks a collaborative, detail-oriented, highly enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual to work in their busy Park in the heart of downtown Westerly. The ideal candidate will work with a dedicated team to provide a safe, cultivated, attractive and natural setting, while retaining the historical character of the Park.

Duties:

  • Performing emergency clean-up
  • Daily chores such as emptying park trash-can contents
  • Gardening tasks, including bed clean-out, replanting, cultivation, watering, mulching, edging, fertilization, hand pruning, lawn mowing, core aeration, liming, new lawn emplacement, leaf raking, hedging, and pesticide application
  • Work at upkeep of Park facilities systems
  • Assisting outside organizations with large Park events

Hours and Pay:
20 hours per week. $18.50 per hour. This position requires flexible days including some Saturdays, and occasional Sundays for weddings or events.

Qualifications:
Must possess knowledge of basic gardening and park maintenance practices; possess skills to use gardening/landscaping tools, as well as gas and electric-powered tools; and be able to work effectively with staff and the public. Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of building, landscape and construction techniques helpful.
