Join Westerly Library and the America Westerly 250 Commission to explore a significant but lesser-known episode in Rhode Island history. Jean Leo Gagnier will explore how Newport engaged in negotiations with Pirate Captain Wallace of the Royal Navy, and gain practical information for further research into Rhode Island’s unique historical legacy.
Jean Gagnier, a URI graduate with a degree in history, is a former two-time Westerly Town Council member, Westerly Planning Board member and one of the founding members of Bricks and Murals. He is an instructor with URI’s OLLI (Osher Life-Long Learning Institue).
