"Cyprinidae is a concept album that plays continuously from top to bottom, simulating the short-form digital ecosystem it both emerges from and critiques. The idea came to me as I looked out the cottage window at the pond, thinking about the koi living there. Their taxonomic family name, Cyprinidae, became the album’s title, and their symbolic association with fleeting attention and constant motion felt like a perfect metaphor for the piece’s central theme. The album is a result of daily creations during my time as artist-in-residence, later woven together with seamless transitions that evoke the experience of scrolling mindlessly without fully registering the passage of time. Cyprinidae is a wholly independent work: I wrote, performed, arranged, produced, and mixed everything on-site in the cottage. The setting, the solitude, and the quiet presence of the pond all shaped the album’s form and its reflection on attention, fragmentation, and the way we experience music in the digital age."
