About the artist:

Dan is a multi faceted artist connecting media, styles, people, geographies, dreams, in a shimmering web of joy. He works in watercolor, acrylic, oil, collage, in notebooks, on found/retrieved paper, on old prints, on canvas, on wood. He sculpts in metal as a plasma cut artist and as a welder. Since covid, he has been “assembling” his series of small
critters, creating forms from the gathered detritus of our lives, both natural and man made, and accompanying each with a witty or poetic title and verse. He is a potter, creating utilitarian and playful forms. He is an Architect. He is a poet. He has a daily practice of exchanging original poetry with a west coast poet. He is a master mask maker, having created over 400 masks for the Mystic Paper Beasts. He is a joyous performer. Both his mother and father were artists, as are his two daughters, each distinct. Daniel Potter began creating sculpture and puppeting at the tender age of eight, and continued with these and with theatre while at the Putney School, Harvard College (AB, 1968), l’Ecole des Beaux Arts, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design (M. Architecture 1973). In 1976, he co-founded the Mystic Paper Beasts Theatre Company, which continues to perform in Museums, Festivals, Libraries, schools, and out and about. With his wife, Marya, he imagined, designed, and built the artist retreat space, Dragon’s Egg Studio: a light filled hexagonal space for dancers and actors, for dreaming and creation. Dan is a poet of mind, word, image, thought, and dream, and has manifested this poetry in many ways, thus connecting us all in his web of delight.
