Come and celebrate Lunar New Year with us and usher in the Year of the Horse! Westerly Library and Wilcox Park has an afternoon of fun planned, which begins with an amazing Chinese Lion Dance performance out in Wilcox Park.
Chinese lion dance is a festive, cultural performance combining the movement and spirit of kung fu with drumming and other percussion instruments. It is especially significant at Lunar New Year, and symbolizes fostering positivity and the warding away of negative energy. Attendees of all ages will be enthralled by the performance, and will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the costume pieces.
The Rhode Island Kung Fu & Lion Dance Club is a non-profit 501c3 cultural & martial arts group practicing Kung Fu & Chinese lion dance in the Providence-area and beyond. The group looks forward to sharing lion dance at the Westerly Library for the Year of the Horse.
