Come and celebrate Lunar New Year with us and usher in the Year of the Horse! We will enjoy a live performance, followed by cultural crafts and food to celebrate!
Lion Dancers in Wilcox Park:
11-11:45am
Chinese lion dance is a festive, cultural performance combining the movement and spirit of kung fu with drumming and other percussion instruments. It is especially significant at Lunar New Year, and symbolizes fostering positivity and the warding away of negative energy. Attendees of all ages will be enthralled by the performance, and will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the costume pieces.
The Rhode Island Kung Fu & Lion Dance Club is a non-profit 501c3 cultural & martial arts group practicing Kung Fu & Chinese lion dance in the Providence-area and beyond. The group looks forward to sharing lion dance at the Westerly Library for the Year of the Horse.
Terrace Room Events:
11:45am - 1:00pm
Following the Lion Dance, head up to the 3rd floor Terrace Room for a variety of crafts and treats for all ages. Decorate your own wooden horse head decal, learn the art of hand-folding dumplings, explore about your zodiac, receive a fortune, and create your own horse sticker!
This program is free and open to all ages, and registration is not required.
