With its extensive south facing landscapes, vibrant cultural life, and a growing passion for the environment; Westerly is ripe for a future in community wide food growing.
This offering desires to provide guests in depth insights gathered from lessons learned during a 5-year neighborhood growing experiment in Bay Spring, 02806.
Based on these lessons, the seminar will offer best practices and troubleshooting for creating a neighborhood and community wide food growing experience.
From planning to application to celebration, Westerly Grows will foster the establishment of food growing corridors designed to enhance the overall aesthetic and property value for all of Westerly.
In and of itself, the practice of growing food as a whole town will create a greater sense of resilience and general well-being for the residents and guests of Westerly.
In this presentation, we will address the nuts and bolts for growing food naturally, while at the same time enriching the overall landscape ecology in Westerly to allow for a sustainable and regenerative path forward.
Our motto: to transform the landscape of society.

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay on December 27, 1974, Daniel Penengo emigrated to EEUU circa 1980. He attributes his green thumb to having tended to his father's prize winning rose bushes and his mother's culinary herb garden as a youngster in the suburbs of Long Island. Daniel deepened his love for ecology through research work in Everglades National Park during his studies at Florida International University. Since arriving in Rhode Island, Daniel continues to advocate for a deep roots ecologically minded approach to society and education.
