We've long offered D&D programs for tweens and teens, and now it's time for the adults to get in on the action!

Practice your spellcasting and dice rolling skills, sharpen your swords and your minds, and strap on your adventuring boots — we’re going to learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons. In this one-off session for beginners, Ethan Gilsdorf, long-time player and author of Fantasy Freaks & Gaming Geeks, will introduce the fundamentals of the venerable role-play game D&D, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Players will learn about characters and how to role-play them, and how to work together as a team to respond to the challenges devised by the Dungeon Master. Will you complete your quest? How will it turn out? The only way to know is to try out D&D for yourself and help tell the story together. Come with an open mind and expect to journey through a fantasy realm full of elves, dwarves, magic, goblins, dragons and dungeons (of course) and other dangers. Everything you need to play — polyhedral dice, character sheets and Doritos and Mountain Dew — will be provided (but feel free to bring other provisions). Limited to 8 adventurers.

NOTE: We will be using a customized, streamlined version of D&D to focus on basics and having fun, rather than getting bogged down in rules. The session is not intended for experienced players, who may find the rules too simple. For adults (18+) only, not for teens or children.

This program is free and open to the public, but space is limited and preregistration is required. Questions? Contact Reference at reference@westerlylibrary.org or (401) 596-2877x306

NOTE: IF REGISTRATION IS FULL AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE PLACED ON A WAITLIST, PLEASE EMAIL REFERENCE@WESTERLYLIBRARY.ORG WITH YOUR FULL NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION.
